I’m VERY proud my 1st Non Honor Flow Productions Executive Producer album credit came courtesy of overseeing my little brothers' Shadows of Society new LP God Is Black, I Am Too.
This is a powerful, status quo piece of work right here. They really put their heart & soul into it and made a front to back gem. I gotta thank them for not only allowing me to be a part of it musically as co-producer and mixer of “Unapologetically Black”, but them trusting my ears in contributing to the album's overall sound and presentation. I'm honored.
Shout out to all the media outlets that have shown album love such as HipHopDX, Mass Appeal, The Lunchtable, and Rap Talk.
Support it damn it lol! Stream/Download God Is Black, I Am Too below.

You see me post about The Dope Spot Studios' monthly showcase "Pomona Dopeness"" at Acerogami all the time due to me being the function's resident DJ. If you have never been, here is a small appetizer courtesy of Cody Squyres via his Vlog. You get a taste of me spinning, throwing a beat set, and jamming with the homies Neverful and Lyrically Twisted. Check it out for all that and some comedy "day in life" moments with Cody.
"Undeniable. First came the opening drum roll, then came the underwater textures of those Rhodes keyboard chords, then as the base line rolls in with Nile Rodgers-like guitar licks, this opening statement is made: 'I'm only comin’ out to play/Nothin’ more that I hate in this life… the wrong impression/ I only have one to make/You can open your palm, waiting to catch a break/The cards will fall where they may.'This was not just signaling the beginning of a song, this was signaling the arrival of arguably 2016’s Rookie of The Year, Anderson .Paak. And hopefully The Recording Academy will feel the same when comes time to vote for Best New Artist at The Grammys. For me, the center characteristic of a potentially timeless record is it cannot be just good, it has to be undeniable. From the first listen, I knew “Am I Wrong” was undeniable..."
The homie and fellow SoulTrain.com alumnus Mr. Joe Walker asked me to write a piece on "My Favorite Song of 2016" for Liquid Arts & Entertainment Magazine. Read on by clicking HERE for my 92+8 piece on "Am I Wrong" by Anderson .Paak and ScHoolboy Q.

For HFP vets and rookies, this is the definitive edition of our opening chapter. To know where we are going next, you have to know where we have been. This album is the foundation of what will become our next "Odyssey." So dream with us before you move with us.

Soul Claps & Salutes and Happy New Year!
- Lord, ELIMN8, and Chuck
Start your NYE celebration early by coming through to Young Baca Productions' "We The West" TONIGHT @ The Airliner with Chuck throwing down a Beat Set! VIBES and JAMS start around 9pm. Pull up.
As the HFP10 celebration is drawing to a close, I realize I haven't completely delivered on my promise of releasing some unreleased music from the vaults. Truthfully, there is not too many finished unreleased tracks I'm sitting on; especially one's I would want the public to hear lol! But what I do have is A LOT of unused beats.
Between 2007-2009, especially during the summer and Christmas vacations, most of my time away from the classroom was me locked in my dorm room or back at home, perfecting my craft; thus building a catalog of instrumentals. This is where I dedicated time to spar, train, and hone in on my skills.
As a matter of fact, that's how it was for who ever was in the crew at that time; as one of those "training sessions" is comedically described by Double-80 on the intro. It was the joy in finding our gifts in our formal years; as the case with any young Mutant who walked through the halls of "Charles Xavier School For Gifted Youngsters." We were like the X-Men: getting busy in "The Danger Room," taking out simulated Sentinels and preparing for the next stage to wreck. So it was only right to entitle this collection of "First Class" sounds from our "Days of Future Past" after the "Uncanny" ones' digital dojo.
Some of these tracks exist as half recorded sessions or the songs that were written yet never recorded. All of these beats at one time or another was either intended for "V.I.S.I.O.N.S." or two previous incarnations of what has become our forthcoming sophomore album. Yes, the title and concept as been around THAT LONG! In due time, I will explain all.
But the best way I can put it to you is this Beat Tape/Instrumental Album is a companion piece to "V.I.S.I.O.N.S;" a la what Kendrick's "Untitled Unmastered" is to "To Pimp A Butterfly." So I am very happy to present to you 24 of my favorite instrumental compositions that I will no longer kick myself in ass for not letting the public hear lol!
Soul Claps & Salutes and Thank You Listening,
DJ Chuck "thE oLd SouL"
Editor's NOTE- The incredibly dope drawing of the X-Men in The Danger Room that I am using as the album cover, was found via a random Google search weeks ago. Now I can't find it again when I search for it. So if anyone out there in Internet land knows who the artist is, PLEASE let me know because I would love to give them credit!

We didn't know what we were doing. We thought we did, but honestly looking back at it, this was us figuring out who and what we were. How to record, how to write songs, and how to work with each other. For me personally, how to produce, arrange, and create at least half the sound I was influenced by with my cracked copy of FL Studio and a $125 Yamaha keyboard I bought with my Christmas money the year before.
Many of you know "V.I.S.I.O.N.S." as our debut album. But leading up to it, there were a couple "Prelude Projects” that were released that acted as a outlet for our ever growing stash of material that was not going to make the album. This was the first of those "Prelude Projects" and the one that means the most to me for sentimental reasons.
Many people have photos and films as artifacts to their past. Even though I have both, I also have an album that pretty much tells the story of mine, ELIMN8, Key, and the then H.F.P. line up's first semester in college. How fucking dope is that? This was a journal committed to sound. We were 18, fresh out of high school, now in the adult world, and "Fall 2 Greatness" was us thinking out loud trying to make sense of it all. It was because of this I remember the inspiration would not slow down, which is why the album is so damn long: 19 songs with 3 interludes sandwiched in between, with about 5 seconds left to spare on that 80 minute CD. We were clearly not thinking of listener’s exhaust lol! Our mindset was if it was dope, we would figure out a way in the sequencing to include it.
At the time of me recording these video clips (with my HP camera which only could store up to one minute of internal memory), I knew I wanted to put together a documentary with this footage, and but I never got around to or had a outlet (Youtube was just becoming a part of the Pop Culture conscience in 2006). This footage has been seen for my eyes only for the past decade; as a personal motivational reminder of why I have committed my life to music. But now as our 10th Anniversary celebration is drawing to a close, I knew it was the perfect time for me share one of my favorite hallmarks of the H.F.P. vault; which includes instrumental versions of cuts from the LP as the film score.
So allow me to take you back to the fall of 2006, inside 1600 Palos Verdes Dr. North, Unit # 330; as well as flashes of my then home bedroom and my then favorite local record store. When were just trying to be dope enough to rock at the school “Coffee House” and get props the next day the student cafe. This was all for the love, this was the genesis, this was the evolution, this was “The Fall 2 Greatness.”
Soul Claps & Salutes,
DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”
The Album Cover
The Promo Flyer posted around Marymount College for the release date. We actually brokered a deal with the school bookstore to sell the album. That was until they found out there was profanity on it. When I was negoating the deal, I only played them the instrumentals lol!
If you missed Chuck on "The B Side Forum" on The B Side Channel, here's the whole show for your on demand viewing pleasure. Dope and funny convo with all creatives and host Young Baca.
